Background:
On 16th November 2024, Jubilee Dental Clinic organized a dental outreach at Wells of Hope Ministries, aiming to serve the children, staff, and the community. The event, which took place from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, was supported by teams from Makerere School of Dentistry and the Uganda Dental Association. The goal was to provide dental care to over 400 individuals. The necessary supplies and equipment were secured in advance, ensuring a smooth operation.
Wells of Hope Ministries includes both primary and secondary school sections with over 300 children. The outreach focused on providing dental check-ups and basic treatments to each child, which was successfully executed by the team.
Event Execution:
The team arrived at 10:00 am, slightly behind schedule, due to anticipated traffic and community turnout. Despite this, the setup was efficiently completed, and the first patient was received by 11:00 am. Four working stations were established to streamline the dental services provided:
- Registration and Preliminary Check-Up Point:
- Staffed by five interns and one doctor, this station handled patient registration and initial assessments, preparing patients for further treatment. Over 180 patients were registered, with the majority being children under 15 years old. The oldest patient was a 90-year-old woman from Nyunanwa village, and the youngest was a 1.5-year-old girl from Wells of Hope.
- Extraction Station:
- Equipped with two mobile dental chairs and additional open chairs, this station attended to over 58 patients requiring tooth extractions.
- Filling/Scaling Station:
- This station, comprising two mobile dental chairs and three open chairs, along with a dispensary for basic painkillers, was the most frequented, serving over 70 patients.
- Sterilization and Sanitation Room:
- The team set up two stoves with pressure cookers, a gas cylinder, and washing stations to ensure proper sterilization of dental tools. This room played a crucial role in maintaining hygiene and preparing equipment for the doctors.
The outreach at Wells of Hope Ministries demonstrated Jubilee Dental Clinic’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, providing essential dental care to a large segment of the community while fostering collaboration with other institutions and organizations.
